Hiromu Takahashi Says Decision To Leave NJPW Was Well-Thought-Out, Adds That There’s A Big Dream He Wants To Achieve
Takahashi opens up about his pending exit from NJPW.
After nearly two decades as a member of the New Japan Pro-Wrestling talent roster, Hiromu Takahashi is wrapping up with the company. His plan to depart the promotion was revealed by NJPW, and they noted in their write-up that there were negotiations held with Takahashi.
Takahashi was in action at NJPW Road to The New Beginning on February 3rd, and after his match, he spoke to reporters (via Tokyo Sports).
He stated that the reaction to him leaving NJPW made him remember how loved he is. He stated that he still dreams of being a junior heavyweight who holds the IWGP Heavyweight Championship. He then added that another big dream has been created inside of him, and he wants to achieve that.
The five-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion said his decision was well-thought-out and he wants to finish his career without regrets.
“It really hit me how much I was loved. I knew it, I was aware, but it made me realize just how much I was cherished. Honestly, it makes me happy.
My dream hasn’t changed. As a junior, I want to hold the IWGP Heavyweight Championship and compete in prime time. Plus, another huge dream has taken root inside me. Wanting to achieve that is huge.
It’s a well-thought-out decision… But I thought that if I didn’t act now, if I didn’t move now, and ended up regretting it 10 or 20 years down the line, then acting now would let me finish my life without regrets. That’s why I made this decision.”
Takahashi’s final match with NJPW is scheduled to take place at The New Beginning in Osaka on February 11th. He’ll be teaming with Taiji Ishimori to take on United Empire (Francesco Akira & Jakob Austin Young).
NJPW President Hiroshi Tanahashi commented on Takahashi’s pending departure. That can be read here.
