Rocky Romero: I Would Love To See More Women Enter The World Of Forbidden Door

Rocky Romero is excited for this year’s Forbidden Door event.

As of publish time, the location or date for this year’s Forbidden Door event has not been announced. Despite that, Romero is still excited to get some new talent on the show this year.

“I think this will be the year, I hope, that Forbidden Door gets an introduction, like fans will get an introduction to new talent. So guys like Yota Tsuji, like the Knock Out Brothers, different talent from Stardom. Obviously Syuri was involved in All In last year, but Stardom has a crazy roster. Their roster is absolutely amazing and I would love to see more women enter the world of the Forbidden Door as well. I think what’s cool about it in the end is every Forbidden Door has been very different. I think this year will be even more different than last year and then now you have the inclusion of CMLL as well. Very likely that we’ll see like a Mistico or Dorada or Hechicero or Persephone be involved again.” Romero told Fightful in a new interview.

Romero went on to glow about the partnership between AEW, NJPW, and CMLL.

“Feels good. To be honest, I never worked for the WWE and I don’t really have any plans to. I feel like what AEW is doing is awesome, especially I think right now Tony’s on a roll and things are really starting to really cook a bit, and New Japan as well. I think Wrestle Kingdom was a great starting point, like a restart, a little bit of a reset. Talent is going to leave, but talent’s always going to leave and go and come back. That’s always going to be a thing. If you look at the history of New Japan, it’s built on that. The most success it’s ever had and the most successful angles are all built on people leaving and coming back. So you just never know in the professional wrestling business. We’ll see where things go. But I’m very, very happy and I feel accomplished to have brought all these companies together and working hand in hand. Not only that, for the talent, making dreams come true, like Claudio Castagnoli is the CMLL World Heavyweight Champion. mean, 20 years ago, he went to CMLL to do training and was trying to get on a show and they weren’t interested at the time and look at him now, he’s the Heavyweight Champ and he’s main eventing Arena Mexico every couple of weeks. I think for us—talent—it’s something special to go and work in Arena Mexico or special go work in Korakuen or Sumo Hall or Tokyo Dome, whatever it is. So I think it’s cool that we’re getting to do these things and you’re not just stuck doing the same consistent stuff. The door’s open to have dream matches against people that you admire and you want to wrestle against and you’re not stuck just wrestling the same 15 people.”

Romero went on to say that WWE’s acquisition of AAA was in response to the working relationship between AEW, NJPW, and CMLL.

“Yeah, probably never happen. I can’t see that happening ever. Them ever working together. But I thought that it was a very interesting move from WWE to acquire AAA. Obviously, it made sense on their end completely and especially to combat all the success that we’ve had with AEW and New Japan together and then CMLL joining as well. It’s a good thing for the fans because now you are seeing more talent from AEW go over to Mexico, to Arena Mexico and wrestling in CMLL and AEW as well.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Rocky Romero talked about Hiroshi Tanahashi possibly coming out of retirement. Fans can check out his full comments by clicking here.
