Cody Rhodes Says Wrestlers Have Suddenly Gotten So Sensitive To What Fans Say

Cody Rhodes comments on wrestlers being sensitive.

Since the birth of the sport, professional wrestling has largely been built on fan reaction and/or opinion. As time has went on, some wrestlers have pushed back on those takes.

Speaking with Brandon Walker of Mostly Sports for a new interview, Rhodes encouraged fellow performers to stop being so sensitive.

“What I tell people, they aren’t all going to like you. You’ve got to get over it. When you’re doing that doom vanity search or whatever, no matter what you do — wrestlers, the mistake they make, oh I followed him. I can turn him. No, they don’t want you. They don’t like you. Also, that’s okay. We all of the sudden have gotten so sensitive to what fans say. There’s no code outside of moral and ethical craziness. You buy a ticket, there’s no code of conduct. You can tell somebody they suck. You can tell somebody they’re fat. It doesn’t matter. You should hear the stuff that’s being yelled at me in the ring in the middle of trying to give a heartfelt speech about Terry Funk or something like that. It’s a fun event for fans to blow off steam. Yeah, I know that’s a controversial take that we should all be minding our Ps and Qs but if you’re a good upstanding human being, I don’t think you need to give yourself 35 rules to attend a wrestling show.”

A bit later on in the interview, Rhodes continued on with his take.

“It’s very confusing to me that we’re judging so hard on fans who come to shows who are just yelling basic [stuff]. You suck should not be — it’s very strange. I get it bad and maybe I’ll get it and all of the sudden feel like, aw, that’s mean guys but I don’t know. Maybe we’re being a little too sensitive. If you’re a wrestler and you’re in Nick Khan’s WWE, you’re making bank. Put those feelings just a little bit over here.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Rhodes spoke about how he doesn’t need his feelings protected. Fans can check out his full comments by clicking here.
