CM Punk: Everyone Says ‘Don’t Be Political’ Until It’s Their Politics, Then They Are Rooting For It

CM Punk weighs in on the current political climate.
Team USA women’s and men’s won Olympic gold in hockey during the 2026 Winter Olympics. The majority of the men’s team went to the White House after their victory, and laughed when President Donald Trump joked about “having” to invite the women’s team.
WWE has plenty of ties to Trump, who is a member of the WWE Hall of Fame, with Linda McMahon serving in his cabinet and Triple H helping with physical fitness in the country.
Speaking to Rock 95.5, CM Punk was asked about navigating the current climate with his words.
“With the climate we’re in now, where everyone is like, ‘I don’t want to be political.’ I feel like everything is political. You make your choices, especially with your dollar. It’s hard to escape everything. My deal is, I try to do no harm. Ultimately, I feel like if you try to censor yourself or kind of bite your tongue, you wind up pissing somebody off. You’re always going to piss somebody off. Right now, all the hockey players are dealing with the gold medal stuff. I think a lot of them are being pretty dumb. I’m not getting invited to the White House, I would not get invited to the White House. It’s not a decision I have to make. A lot of them are saying, ‘Don’t be political,’ and then they’re showing up to the White House. Guess what, you are being political. Unfortunate, but great for some people. Some people love it. Everyone always says, ‘Don’t be political,’ until it’s their politics, and then they are rooting for it. We’re all guilty of that,” he said.
Punk is set to defend the WWE World Heavyweight Title against Finn Balor at WWE Elimination Chamber.
