Maki Itoh Shares That She Almost Completely Changed Her Character When She Joined STARDOM

Itoh decided to believe in herself.

In January 2026, Maki Itoh joined World Wonder Ring STARDOM and signed a contract with the promotion. A month into Itoh’s run, she took to X and shared that she almost completely changed her character when she joined STARDOM.

She noted that she planned to stop saying her signature catchphrase, singing during her entrances, and wanted to change her hairstyle. In the end, Itoh opted to stick with what got her to this point in her career.

When I decided to join STARDOM, I seriously considered changing my fighting style (I took criticism like ‘Itoh is a character wrestler’ to heart and developed a complex about it).
I thought about stopping my singing entrance, changing my hairstyle, not saying things like ‘I’m the cutest in the world,’ and starting over from scratch.

But in the end, I gave up on being a model student in the positive sense. After going full circle (or maybe 300 laps?), I decided to believe in myself. It took tremendous resolve, but despite some mixed reactions, seeing how quickly I’ve been able to make STARDOM’s fans smile makes me glad I trusted myself. Every time I step into this ring, I feel a deep sense of purpose.
