Deonna Purrazzo Details Her Pitch For ‘Purrazzo In Picture’ Segment, Says Chelsea Green Thought The Idea Was Gold
Deonna Purrazzo details a brilliant pitch.
Purrazzo has spent time with nearly all of the major promotions throughout her career. Despite currently reigning as the ROH Women’s Pure Championship, ‘The Virtuosa’ is still learning and advancing in the world of wrestling.
Speaking with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp for a new interview, Purrazzo first talked about how she had to learn television wrestling again when she joined AEW.
“It’s like a catch-22, right? Because literally my eighth match was a TNA knockouts, was an all Knockouts pay-per-view, eighth match ever. I was so in over my head in terms of like, ‘What is a hard cam?’ I was one year into my wrestling training, but I think that exposed me so early on that I was like so ahead of the game and so ahead of my peers in terms of like, two weeks later, I was an extra. I was being a Rosebud on RAW and SmackDown. So I’ve just kind of had this trajectory from the start where it was like, ‘You don’t have a choice but to be TV ready.’ Now though, I felt like going to AEW was one of those big moments where it was such a shift again, because TNA wasn’t live at the time. Everything was taped except pay-per-views and so I hadn’t worked a commercial break in three years. So it was a real big learning curve to go back to live TV when I hadn’t for so long. Then learning the [AWA] and things like that, I felt like I was a little bit behind the ball actually, almost two years ago when I started there.”
Purrazzo went on to detail one of the pitches that she made to AEW. Chelsea Green was even a big fan of the idea.
“I pitched, Purrazzo in Picture. It was a mock picture-in-picture segment where we could pop up my floating head and I could talk shit about an opponent or like a pop quiz, AEW history question, and make it about one of the girls and they have a problem with it and then I could just get squashed. I was like, don’t need to be like a serious ‘rassler. I can just do Purrazzo in Picture. I ran this by [Chelsea] when I came up with the idea and she was like, ‘Deonna, that’s gold. You need to pitch this.’”
Elsewhere in the interview, Purrazzo talked about wanting to team with Britt Baker and the Renegade Twins in AEW. Fans can check out her full comments by clicking here.
