Deonna Purrazzo Says TNA Run With Chelsea Green Was A Play On Everything They Went Through In NXT
Deonna Purrazzo recalls teaming with Chelsea Green in TNA.
Throughout the back half of 2022, Purrazzo and Green essentially dominated the Knockouts tag division in TNA Wrestling. This run included the duo holding the Knockouts Tag Team Championships for nearly two months.
Speaking with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp for a new interview, Purrazzo first recalled a few of the tag team names that they considered using in NXT.
“Oh, gosh, I don’t know. I think VXT had a whole bunch of different names when we pitched it because NXT at the time didn’t want the play on NXT. She was like, ‘What we were the hell-bent Vixens?’ or something like that. Like that wasn’t it. But something about the Vixens or, ‘What if we’re the Calvary?’ Like it’s play on the Horsewomen, right? We had a bunch of different names in mind. But definitely hers always led towards that Diva era, where I was more like the historical.”
Continuing on, Purrazzo recalled getting pitched ‘Due Collectors’ as a team name in NXT. As a bit, the duo then wanted that name for their finisher in TNA.
“When we were in TNA, actually, we wanted our finisher, which was the double pendulum, in TNA to be called the Due Collector. Which, when we were in NXT, they were doing PC Live, and they put VXT. So at the time, was me, Chelsea, and Rachael Ellering were VXT and VXT was Rachael’s idea. So she pulled us aside and was like, ‘Let’s pitch this idea,’ and they liked it for PC Live, but they didn’t like VXT. So they were like, ‘What if we call you guys the Due Collectors?’ We were like, ‘This is horrible. Horrible.’ It was also kind of like, ‘Are you being sarcastic in terms of like, that’s what you think?’ Like, ‘Oh, we paid our dues. You have to pay your dues.’ We were kind of like offended. So everything that Chelsea and I did in TNA as Vexed, ‘cause they didn’t want to call us VXT because of that, was kind of like a play on everything we went through in NXT. So we wanted to be our finish to be called the Due Collector, but Tom Hannifin was like, ‘I’m not fucking saying that.’”
Elsewhere in the interview, Purrazzo named a couple of wrestlers that she had high hopes for in the early days of their careers. Check out her full comments by clicking here.
