Steve Maclin On Getting ‘Fired’ From TNA: First Thing That Went Through My Mind Was How Am I Going To Explain To My Wife I Just Got Fired By Taking A Chance In A Match

Steve Maclin comments on getting “fired” after the Feast or Fired match.

On March 5, Mike Santana asked TNA’s Director of Authority, Santino Marella, to reinstate Steve Maclin after he got “fired” from the promotion by getting the fired briefcase.

Speaking with Rewind Recap Relive, Maclin was asked how he felt when he opened the briefcase and learned he was getting fired.

“Oh, it felt awful. The first thing that went through my mind is like, I know my wife was watching but how am I going to explain to my wife I just got fired by taking a chance in a match [in] which I didn’t even have to go grab a briefcase at all? That’s the funny part about it. People [are] like, ‘Oh well, why? The match doesn’t make sense. It’s a stupid stipulation.’ No. It’s an opportunity. That’s all [we] as entertainers and wrestlers in the world… Like we want that opportunity. The best three out of four chance. I could have been a 3-time TNA International Champion. I could have been first-time ever X Division Champion. I could have been a 2-time TNA World Champion. But I got the fired briefcase. Opening that briefcase, yeah, it stunk, but I was like, ‘All right, now what do I do? What do I have to do to get my job back? Where am I going to go work now?'”

When asked if people in the wrestling industry reached out to him, he said:

“A lot of people did. It was humbling at the same time too to see how many people actually cared, if I was okay or what’s next for me and say if I needed anything. But at the same time too it was a lot of eye opening of like, oh wow, it took for me to get fired for people to start talking about me and caring and saying all the nice things about me. That should have been going on the entire time for everything that I was doing for the company. But no, of course it has to take something that’s tragic or a moment where people have to be in their emotions and feels. It’s just like when somebody passes and that everybody has to go on to Twitter right away and say, ‘Oh, RIP to this person.’ No, you don’t. You’re just doing that for yourself so you can get views and clicks on your post. For me, it was one of those moments that was just kind of eye opening. I’m like, ‘You know what? Screw it. It’s about time I start taking care of Steve Maclin.'”

Maclin is currently scheduled to face Mike Santana for the TNA World Championship at Sacrifice on March 27.
