Brock Lesnar Opens Up About UFC 121 Loss To Cain Velasquez: “He Handed Me My Ass… Going Through Diverticulitis Really Took A Lot Of Fight Out Of Me, I Almost Died”

The former UFC Heavyweight Champion speaks about the loss.

It was in October 2010 that Brock Lesnar versus Cain Velasquez headlined UFC 121 with the UFC Heavyweight Championship on the line. Velasquez put Lesnar away in the first round via TKO.

Lesnar guest appeared on Spittin’ Chiclets, and opened up about the loss to Velasquez. He said Cain beat him badly, but the diverticulitis he was dealing with on the lead-up to the fight took a lot out of him. Lesnar shared that the digestive condition almost killed him.

“Cain Velasquez, he handed me my ass in Anaheim. But, I think for me, going through diverticulitis really took a lot of fight out of me. I almost died with that disease and afterwards, it changed my life a little bit and changed my mentality towards the sport, and hey, you can get hurt at this pretty easily and so, it was one of those deals where early in my career, it was all or nothing, and then, there was some fights left on my contract where I was like, ‘You know what? I’m not gonna leave this money on the table so I’m gonna go fight.’”

Lesnar and Velasquez reignited their history when Velasquez was signed to WWE in 2019. They had a match for the WWE Championship at the Crown Jewel Premium Live Event, which Lesnar won in two minutes.
