Carmelo Hayes Explains Why He Views NXT Crowd As ‘Wishy-Washy’
Hayes looks back on the NXT days.
From 2021 to 2024, Carmelo Hayes was a part of WWE’s NXT brand. His accolades on the brand are listed as follows: 2021 NXT Breakout tournament winner, NXT Champion (1 time), NXT North American Champion (2 times), NXT Cruiserweight Champion (1 time, final holder of the title).
Hayes’ time in NXT was discussed during his appearance on the Battleground Podcast. He was asked when he knew he had the NXT faithful behind him and stated that the crowd is wishy-washy. Hayes said they will be with you until they feel it’s someone else’s time to shine.
“That crowd is wishy-washy, even still to this day. They’re never yours. They’re who’s hot in the moment, and I knew that and I understood that and it was one of those things where I had even did a promo with Trick (Williams) where it’s like they love you on the rise and then when it’s (the) next guy’s turn, they’ll switch on you, and that’s the truth. That crowd, they’ll make you but they’ll also break you.”
Hayes is now on the Friday Night SmackDown brand and has been on the main roster since April 2024. He just finished up a run as United States Champion.
