Charlotte Flair Says WWE Unreal Helped Her Connect With Fans
Charlotte Flair explains how WWE Unreal helped her.
WWE Unreal on Netflix has taken fans behind the scenes as the cameras go into the writer’s room and see a different side of wrestlers that they might not see on the screen. WWE has continued to blur the lines even on television, most recently by inserting Pat McAfee into the story with Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes and mentioning low ticket sales.
Speaking to Evan Cohen, Chris Canty and Michelle Smallmon on Unsportsmanlike, Charlotte was asked if she liked the reality behind Unreal and the story with McAfee.
“Every business needs to evolve and we’re here to sell conflict. The older generation, everyone lived in gimmick. Either you play the good guy or the bad guy. You weren’t traveling with the person you were in a feud with. Now, you can see me and whoever I’m wrestling at the gym the next day. We know it’s scripted. For me, Unreal did so much in terms of the fans being able to connect with the person and not just the character. I played my character so well that they believed that I was that bad guy for the last nine years. For me, it did wonders. Everything has to evolve. If you’re really good at your job, it shouldn’t be an issue,” she said.
The first two seasons of Unreal are now streaming on Netflix.
Charlotte is set to team with Alexa Bliss to challenge for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles in a four-way tag match at WrestleMania 42.
