Jerry Lawler Was Not Aware That The Decision Would Be Reversed For WWE WrestleMania 27 Match Against Michael Cole

Lawler shares a note about the match.

In 2011, WWE presented the 27th annual WrestleMania event at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. The seventh match on the card was a battle of the commentators as Michael Cole went one-on-one with Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler, and guest refereeing the match was Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Lawler shared a new note about the match during his appearance on Notsam Wrestling Live!. He said he did not know the decision to the match would be reversed. Lawler scored a submission win over Cole, but it was overturned when the anonymous Raw General Manager decided that Austin’s actions during the match should be ruled a disqualification in Michael Cole’s favor.

“He and I, Michael Cole, had no idea what the finish was gonna be (to our WrestleMania 27 match), and we did the thing and I got my hand raised and I said, well, that’s nice — way it should be… I just kept thinking, I mean, this was good, we did the thing. Hand raised. Drank beer — well, I didn’t drink it but I pretended to, and then, nobody told me that they were going to reverse the decision,” Lawler laughed. “A lot of that stuff happens.”

Lawler suffered his third stroke in the fall of 2025. The 76-year-old shared that he is not ruling out the idea of returning to the ring.
