CM Punk Says He Didn’t Know Ray Clay Would Be Part Of Chicago Bulls Intro At WWE Elimination Chamber
CM Punk had a special entrance at WWE Elimination Chamber as “Sirius” by Alan Parsons Project rang out through the United Center.
As Punk walked from his locker room to Gorilla position, Ray Clay provided a special introduction for Punk. “Sirius” was used as the intro song for Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls, and Clay did the intro for Jordan.
Speaking to Matt Barnes on All The Smoke, Punk explained how it all came together.
“I didn’t even know about Ray Clay. Then, I heard his voice in the rehersal and I literally was like, ‘Is that really him? Is he alive?’ I look up and on the scoreboard on the United Center they have banners hanging. Being a kid from Chicago, currently living two miles from the United Center, it means something to me. I hope my gratitude shows through it. Those are amazing moments and it helps illustrate that if you’re passionate about something and you give it your all and you deal with the heartbreak and setbacks, a lot of good can come from this.
It was a collaboration but the spark was me. When I came up in the WWE, it was a wildly different place. If I would have suggested that back then, they would’ve laughed at me. Vince (McMahon) does not like to spend money licensing music. Alan Parsons Project was very expensive. You’d almost put that to bed before you vocalize it. It would never happen. Now, it’s a new place. A lot of times, it’s smarter to have the conversation, take that shot in the dark, and someone will pick it up and run wild with it.”
Punk would defeat Finn Balor at WWE Elimination Chamber.
CM Punk will defend the WWE World Heavyweight Title against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 42.
