Roman Reigns Def. CM Punk To Become WWE World Heavyweight Champion At WrestleMania 42

Roman Reigns is back on top of the mountain.
Closing night two of WrestleMania 42 was Roman Reigns challenging CM Punk for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Punk had been in possession of the title since November 2025.
On the jacket Punk was sporting during his entrance, he had a patch for his late dog, Larry. Punk also had the names of Bo Lueders, Jim Shane, Kerwin Silfies, Davey Coates, and Harley Race on his jacket.
There was a point in the bout when Punk went over to ringside and snatched an ula fala off the neck of a fan. He went back into the ring to spear Reigns, but Reigns countered into a guillotine.
Punk and Reigns would start trading fists. Punk took his hand tape off and threw it at Reigns, which led to the referee picking the tape up and removing it from the ring. While the official’s back was turned, Punk low-blowed Reigns. Punk then proceeded to hit Reigns with a GTS, but it only got him a two-count.
Later on, while Reigns was laid out on the commentary table, Punk climbed to the top rope and hit a flying elbow onto Reigns through the table.
The backend of the bout saw an exhausted Punk try to hit a second GTS onto Reigns, but Punk’s body gave out on him. Reigns then proceeded to hit back-to-back spears on Punk to put him away and capture the World Heavyweight Championship.
