Finn Bálor would be interested in sharing the ring with Conor McGregor.
As Finn Bálor was guest appearing on Stephanie McMahon’s ‘What’s Your Story?’ podcast, he dove into several of the names that were suggested for him when he arrived at WWE.
He mentioned that one of the names was ‘McGregor.’ Bálor was then asked if he would like to face former UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor in a wrestling ring, and he said absolutely.
“McGregor was on there,” Bálor said about the list of potential names for his WWE run, “And this was before Conor had really blown up. He’d had the fight in Boston where he won but he injured his knee, and it was just after that and I remember thinking, nah, this guy’s gonna be a mega star and I don’t wanna have the same name.” Bálor was asked if he would like to have a match with Conor McGregor, and he said, “Oh, absolutely. Absolutely, yeah… I think I’d definitely rather be on his side than standing face-to-face with him, that’s for sure, and I want it in a wrestling ring, not in a cage.”
McGregor has not fought in MMA since the summer of 2021, when he lost to Dustin Poirier via TKO at UFC 264. UFC CEO Dana White stated that he’s confident McGregor will fight this summer.
