Chris Jericho Says He Got The Idea To Focus On His Last Name From Self-Titled Albums

Chris Jericho is in his self-titled era.

Since making his return to AEW in April, Chris Jericho has often been referred to as just ‘Jericho’. Fightful Select has previously reported that this was a request from Y2J himself.

Speaking with David Shoemaker of Ringer Wrestling for a new interview, Jericho revealed that the shift towards his last name is inspired by self-titled albums.

“I like the idea of what I’m doing now with Jericho and just by not using that first name a lot, it creates this whole intrigue online like, ‘What’s he doing? What’s the idea? What’s the reason?’ Honestly, it’s like a self-titled album, that’s where I kind of got the idea from. I could create a dozen other nicknames, but how many more do I need? Everyone knows who Jericho is. When you hear that name, then you can go remember whatever memories you have on your own. So, it really is like Metallica with The Black Album. It didn’t need to be called anything. You know who Metallica is, you know what’s going on. The Beatles, The White Album, same thing. So, that’s kind of what the idea is for the Jericho era. I like it, I like what’s been going on. I’m kind of going with the flow and seeing what’s working and what’s not.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Jericho was asked about the rumors that clouded his free agency period. Check out his full comments on the situation by clicking here.
