Kaitlyn Says Total Divas Is The Reason She Missed WrestleMania 29 Despite Being The Divas Champion

Kaitlyn comments on missing WrestleMania 29.

She joined the company back in 2010, and later held the Divas Title as well. Despite being the Divas Champion, Kaitlyn wasn’t a part of WrestleMania 29.

Speaking on Rewind Recap Relive, Kaitlyn commented on this.

“Everything evolves, right? But specifically women’s wrestling, that’s such a huge topic of like how far it’s come, especially me being where I was at that time. … I was never on WrestleMania even the year that I had the title. I was never on the show and so it was like really disappointing then, but I also could kind of see what was happening. Now being so far removed and looking back, its like, I get it. The WrestleMania that I had the title was 2013. … They were going to debut the Total Divas show. So that took the women’s time on WrestleMania. I wasn’t a part of that.”

Kaitlyn later says she felt more pressure behind the scenes than on television, saying at times she felt like an outsider. Vince McMahon told her that Total Divas wouldn’t impact any of the storylines, but then she realized WWE was actually going to put more focus on this.

She opened up about not being part of WrestleMania despite being the Divas Champion at that time.

“I didn’t know how to create these relationships where I’m definitely going to be the one on Total Divas, like wouldn’t I be like. I didn’t even know what was happening until like they started creating the promotional material for it. …. Obviously, I knew who was on the show. But in the beginning, Vince, I think he had called a meeting before Raw … to specifically tell the women Total Divas is not going to interfere with the storylines on the show, like it’s just not. When they introduced Total Divas, and it was a huge step for women’s wrestling because it was on this very popular culture channel, the E! Network. It was this huge exposure for women’s wrestling. So it was like super cool. It was very obvious that Total Divas was really going to be everything in terms of representing the Divas division, especially on that WrestleMania. It’s not like I was like, ‘Well, you know, the Divas Title doesn’t mean anything.’ I kind of understood it, it sucked. But so it was just like an interesting time then. Then to see just everything that has transpired and how women’s wrestling is so revered and respected now, it’s so cool. Especially to see that group of women come back and shake things up. The Bellas look better than ever. AJ looks better. Then Paige. They all look incredible. It’s like this cool moment of redefining a lot of things.”

WrestleMania 29 didn’t feature any women’s matches.
