Ken Anderson Reveals How His Mic Drop Entrance Started In WWE

Ken Anderson reveals how he came up with his entrance.

In WWE, Ken Anderson had a popular entrance where he would take the microphone and make his own introduction. This entrance routine first started when Anderson was working in OVW and carried over to the main roster.

Speaking on Tagging in with Chris Harris, Anderson was asked about his WWE entrance and where did the idea come from.

“I remember Paul Heyman had come into OVW, taking over the pencil. … He was giving me a lot of TV time. He just told me one night, he was like, ‘Come out there tonight and cut the ring announcer off.’ The ring announcer at the time at OVW was Dean Hill. He was like, ‘Cut him off.’ Because Dean Hill would do the ring introductions. He’s like, ‘Cut him off, snatch the mic from him, dress him down and cut him out a little bit. Then you do it. You do your own introduction and you do it like this.’ Paul did a variation of what I ended up doing, what I still do to this day. So like nobody else can do your introduction like you can. That night I went into the ring and I was doing that. In the moment I had a flashback to… I used to announce basketball games when I was in high school.

I would always say the last name twice for members of our team. When it was the other team, I would just throw their name away. I would do the big, big, huge introduction for our players and their players, I would just be like Bob Jones. Then I would hit the last name twice. … I don’t remember how old I was at the time, 27. So I’m almost 10 years, maybe even 10 years past being in high school.

I just hadn’t even thought of that. It just hadn’t even dawned on me. I just thought I’m going to hit my last name twice and I did it. I came back through the curtain and everybody was like, ‘Keep doing that.’”

Elsewhere in the interview, Anderson said Kurt Angle decided to go 10 minutes over their allotted match at TNA Lockdown 2010. Fans can read his comments here.
