The Rock Comments On Missing Oscar Nomination For ‘The Smashing Machine’

The Rock is back to work.
Back in January, fans were disappointed to see Rock miss out on an Academy Award nomination for his work as Mark Kerr in ‘The Smashing Machine’. Instead, Timothee Chalamet (Marty Supreme), Michael B. Jordan (Sinners), Leonardo DiCaprio (One Battle After Another), Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon) and Wagner Moura in (The Secret Agent) secured nominations. Jordan ended up winning the award in March.
Speaking with Esquire for a new interview, Rock reflected on the miss.
“It would have been incredible to get nominated for an Oscar. I realized very quickly that it’s a rare thing to reach this pinnacle where you’re even having these conversations. And it’s exciting! It would have been amazing. I wish it happened. But it didn’t. But in no uncertain terms did I ever think, Oh, that doesn’t matter. I always thought it mattered. And it has lit a fire in my spine, which is: Let’s go back to work.”
Rock’s upcoming film projects include ‘Moana’, ‘Jumanji: Open World’, and ‘Fast Forever’.
Elsewhere in the interview, Rock detailed his recent cancer scare. Check out his story here.
