Matt Hardy Defends Supernatural Gimmicks In Modern Wrestling, Says Becoming Broken Matt And Brother Nero Rejuvenated The Hardys’ Careers

Matt Hardy shares his thoughts on fans not liking supernatural gimmicks.

During the TNA Rebellion event, Matt Hardy brought back his “Broken” persona. Since then, The Hardys have had a cinematic match against The Righteous and recently invited them to the Hardy Compound as well.

Speaking with Soundsphere Magazine for a new interview, The Hardys were asked about people who believe supernatural/dark gimmicks don’t work in modern wrestling. Matt explained why he disagrees with the critics.

“I obviously disagree, because at the end of the day, wrestling is entertainment. We are telling a story. We want to create compelling characters. That’s what we do, and it totally works for me. I mean, wrestling is something we are in control of. A lot of people are critical of it, but once again, wrestling is not your typical sports. We are not out here having a legitimate contest in a football game, or soccer, or basketball, or baseball, whatever it may be. Pro wrestling is entertainment, and the pro wrestlers who are the most successful will have created characters that people actually care about, they’re emotionally invested in.  If you can connect to something, that people can connect to, then that is where you become successful. Us becoming Broken Matt and Brother Nero totally rejuvenated our career. It strengthened our run as we went forward and gave us other characters that we could play with and go back to.”

In another interview, The Hardys shared their thoughts on AJ Styles’ retirement. Fans can read more about this here.
