Bad Dude Tito Says He Found Out About Kenny Omega Match The Night Before It Was Taped
Bad Dude Tito discusses his match with Kenny Omega.
Tito and Omega faced off on the June 11 episode of AEW Collision, just days before Omega’s match with Zack Sabre Jr. at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door. This was Tito’s television debut for the company after previously competing on pay-per-view pre-shows and episodes of AEW Dark.
Speaking with Bodyslam for a new interview, Bad Dude Tito revealed that he got the call for the match just two days before it happened.
“You know, just through my connections with New Japan and being in a stable with Zack, TMDK. I got a call that Tuesday asking if I was available to wrestle on Thursday. I said, ‘Yeah, I’m available, let’s run it.’ They didn’t tell me what I was doing, I had no idea what I was doing. I text somebody and I was like, alright, what should I bring, I want to be prepared. They were like, bring your wrestling stuff and bring some stuff for a runout.”
As it turns out, Tito didn’t know he was wrestling Kenny Omega until the night before.
“The night before, Wednesday night I was packing and I got a message from a friend and she said, ‘Oh, congratulations.’ I was like, Congratulations on what?’ She sent me a link to the AEW Twitter, it was me versus Kenny. I was like, ‘Oh shit, I’ve gotta get ready for this.’”
Speaking on the match itself, Tito said that it was pretty cool to share the ring with the ‘Best Bout Machine’.
“It was cool, it was great. I wish I could’ve lasted a bit longer in there but it is what it is. It was an honor to be in there with him, he’s one of the greatest wrestlers to ever live, so it was pretty cool.”
Tito ended up earning another match on the June 24 episode of AEW Dynamite, where he teamed with Mikey Nicholls to face the Young Bucks.
