Evan Husney Explains Why Some Dark Side Of The Ring Episodes May Never Happen
Evan Husney discusses getting episode requests for Dark Side of the Ring.
Dark Side of the Ring recently premiered its seventh season. The show first started back in 2019 and covered a wide range of wrestling topics so far.
Speaking with Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, Evan Husney commented on fans requesting certain topics to be covered on the show. Sean had mentioned CM Punk’s backstage fights and the WWE-Saudi Arabia flight situation.
“Yeah, I mean those ones for sure. Those are those are absolutely always going to be there. Mike Awesome is one that comes up a lot. There’s nobody who would want to see that more than me and that’s just kind of a choice of, look Mike Awesome’s widow, for her, it’s an unbelievably tragic story and probably very difficult for her to revisit that and she’s just not able to. That’s my understanding and so it just feels wrong to do that without that.”
Husney later talks about what goes into deciding episode subjects for the show.
“What I would say to fans is like, we’ve considered everything under the sun and the main reasons that they haven’t happened is one, the story isn’t done yet. That could be one version, ‘cause you’d hate to go down the road, start putting all the efforts into making something and then realize that it’s dated and it’s not the whole story hasn’t been told yet. So that’s one.
Or number two, you just don’t have the authenticity of the voices. Our show, I hope people feel this way is, it’s all firsthand information. If you go back, it’s, there’s no real talking heads. There’s no real expert voices. These are all the people that lived through this stuff. So if the people that lived through said thing aren’t around or don’t want to do it, then you’re shit out of luck, you don’t really have a thing to stand on and then it might just kind of look exploitative. We just don’t want to go down that road where we’re just kind of covering things to cover things and it doesn’t have the right people involved.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Husney comments on covering The Big Boss Man’s story. Fans can read his comments here.
