Will Ospreay Says One Of The Reasons He Departed NJPW Is Because He Was ‘Over The Office’

Will Ospreay opens up about why he departed NJPW.

From 2016 to 2024, Will Ospreay was signed to New Japan Pro-Wrestling on a full-time basis. His final match before joining All Elite Wrestling was in February 2024.

While guest appearing on Marking Out with MVP & Dwayne Swayze, Ospreay opened up about why he departed NJPW and said one of the reasons is he was ‘over the office.’ Ospreay remembers telling NJPW booker Gedo that he was leaving and shared that Gedo was sad.

“I kind of knew that this was gonna be my last year. There was some things that were happening behind the scenes. I was just over the office. I loved the boys and I loved the fans… I got a new girlfriend. I became a dad to her kid. So it was just one of these things where I wanted to be present and I wanted to be there more so I knew I needed to go to my next stage of my career. But I didn’t wanna cut my ties with Japan. So that’s why AEW was amazing, right? In 2023, I had told Gedo that I am gonna be out the door and he was so sad. I remember his face. ‘I don’t want you to go…'”

Ospreay is one-third of the NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Champions in NJPW with HENARE and Great-O-Khan. They won the titles at Wrestling Dontaku 2026.
