Tommaso Ciampa Says AEW World Title Match With Darby Allin Was His ‘Love Letter To Pro Wrestling’

Tommaso Ciampa says that his AEW World Title match with Darby Allin earlier this year was his love letter to professional wrestling.

On the April 22nd edition of AEW Dynamite, Ciampa would take on Darby Allin in a brutal match for the AEW World Heavyweight Championship. However, despite the brutality, Ciampa would come up just short of winning the championship against Allin.

While speaking to Undisputed in a recent interview, Tommaso Ciampa spoke about Kenny Omega recently capturing the AEW World Title.

“When I’m in a bubble, I’m in a bubble–when I’m not, I’m not,” said Ciampa. “Being in AEW, I consume everything they put out–so of course I watched that one. That crowd was insane. The pay-per-view we did in New York a couple months ago at Double or Nothing was one of the better live crowds I’ve seen in a very long time, but the place was electric for Kenny. That crowd knew they were part of something special, they were ready for that moment. The massive kick out at one he had near the end? The whole thing was incredible.”

Ciampa continued, noting that there would have been no better way to kick off a world title run for him than his match with Darby Allin.

“There’s no better way to kick off what a Tommaso Ciampa world title run would look like than that Darby match,” said Ciampa. “It was my love letter to pro wrestling. I knew what I wanted and expected it to be, but I think a lot of people maybe counted me out and thought my best days were behind me. It was very important for me to have that match with Darby and have it go as well as it did. The next time people see an AEW world title match with Tommaso Ciampa’s name linked to it, they’re going to know they’re in for something special. Hey, maybe in a perfect world, that match would be with Kenny Omega. That would be an epic first-time clash that a lot of people thought they’d never see.”

Following their bout together, Ciampa would call Allin his ‘wrestling soulmate’. You can read more about that here.
