Tony Khan: The Pandemic Leveled The Odds Between AEW And WWE

While most of the world shut down during the pandemic, wrestling continued, not missing a week. WWE continued at the Performance Center in Orlando before moving into the ThunderDome, while AEW held shows at Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida.

Speaking on Power Players with Brian Sozzi, Tony Khan explained how the pandemic actually helped AEW.

“That was the best experience I ever had. That’s the best thing that ever happened to the company. It really leveled the odds for the two wrestling promotions and so many people around the world, to this day, talk about the quality of wrestling and say when you put it back like that and put it on a level playing field, so many people saw that AEW is the best wrestling. For me, that was the best experience, and those are the shows I’m most proud of,” he said.

Wrestling in the pandemic started in March 2020 and lasted through July 2021, when both promotions finally went back out on the road for events.
