Kurt Angle On Brock Lesnar’s Botched Shooting Star Press: I Thought He Broke His Neck, I Was Very Concerned For Him

Kurt Angle reflects on his WWE title defense at WrestleMania 19 and the scary moment where Brock Lesnar botched a Shooting Star Press.

At WrestleMania 19, Lesnar and Angle would meet with the WWE Championship on the line. During the course of the match, Lesnar would attempt a Shooting Star Press, but wouldn’t complete his rotation, landing on the top of his head. Despite the ugly landing, Lesnar would finish the bout.

While speaking to WWE Vault’s Photo Shoot in a new interview, Kurt Angle reflected on the match, noting that it was an emotional night for him due to impending neck surgery.

“I was the established champion, the greatest wrestler in the world, and here’s this young guy (Brock Lesnar) coming up that wanted to take my place. This was a very emotional night for me because I had a broken neck and I had to have surgery.”

Angle continued and spoke about the moment where Lesnar landed ugly following his Shooting Star Press attempt.

“Brock did the Shooting Star Press, and he didn’t complete the move. I thought he broke his neck. I was very concerned for him. I kept saying, ‘are you OK? Are you OK? Are you OK?’ and he wasn’t answering, and then he said something like, ‘I think so.’ He proved a lot to me that night. He showed that even though he was young and inexperienced, that he deserved to be in that position.”
