WWE Initially Wanted Seth Rollins In His Ring Gear For Surprise Cash-In At SummerSlam 2025, Becky Lynch Said ‘Absolutely Not’ To The Idea

Becky Lynch felt that Seth Rollins appearing in his gear would have given everything away.

Via WWE: Unreal on Netflix, it was confirmed that WWE came up with the plan to fake Seth Rollins’ knee injury in the summer of 2025, which set up his surprise return and cash-in to become World Heavyweight Champion at SummerSlam.

Rollins interviewed Becky Lynch for The Rich Eisen Show, and they discussed the cash-in. The initial idea was for Rollins to wear his ring gear for the moment instead of his non-wrestling attire. Lynch chimed in and shut the idea down because she said if Rollins was in his gear, the fans would have never bought into the moment leading up to Rollins dropping his crutches.

Lynch: “I was on the bus when that conversation happened.”

Rollins: “You were. Yeah, she was a consultant.”

Lynch: “Yes. I was a staunch believer that you shouldn’t be in your gear.”

Rollins: “That’s right.”

Lynch: “They wanted you in your gear and I was like, ‘Eh, he can’t be in his gear.’”

Rollins: “Yeah, the initial was, ‘Oh, you’re coming out because you’re cashing in. You have to be in your gear because it’s gonna be a match’ and she was like, ‘Absolutely not. If you’re in your gear, then they know. It’s a dead giveaway. Don’t do it.’ I didn’t know. Always listen to The Man.”

Rollins’ reign as champion lasted several months before he went down with a shoulder injury that required surgery. Fast forward to present day, Rollins is back in the World Title picture and is set to challenge Roman Reigns for the belt at SummerSlam 2026.
