Samoa Joe Says His Dark Side Of The Ring Episode Provided A Nice Snapshot For That Time Period Of Pro Wrestling
Samoa Joe discusses his Dark Side Of The Ring episode.
Back in July, the show aired an episode that profiled the historic IWA Mid-South match between Samoa Joe and Necro Butcher. The fan reception was great, with some saying that it was one of the best Dark Side episodes ever.
Speaking with Joel Pearl of Fightful Overbooked, Joe praised the show for providing a snapshot of that time period in wrestling.
“Initially, Stu got in touch with me. I’ve known him for a while now. We kind of discussed what they wanted to do, that they wanted to take a bit of a different tact and kind of highlight a match and in a lot of ways, the life of Necro and the very many trials and tribulations that he’s gone through. For me, it’s just that it was an interesting opportunity of context to a match that I think a lot of mythology has been built around. At the same time, it was a nice kind of snapshot of that time period in fandom for pro wrestling. For me, I think giving a peek to the current world of what it used to be like on the old message board days, it was an interesting environment.”
