John Cena Remains Under Multi-Year Deal With WWE In An Ambassador Role Following In-Ring Retirement; Claim Within WWE That He Wouldn’t Be Able To Wrestle Elsewhere Contractually

John Cena can’t wrestle anywhere else due to his contract.

Towards the end of 2025, John Cena wrestled his final wrestling match against Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event. This was one of the biggest retirements in modern history, and many fans speculated that Cena would eventually return to the ring for another time. Cena has said many times before that he doesn’t plan on wrestling ever again. Although he did say that if someone were to try to lure him back to the ring, it would be a “financial suicide.”

Fightful Select has confirmed with their sources that Cena “remains under a multi-year deal with WWE in an ambassador role following his in-ring retirement.” Additionally, they said, “The claim within WWE when we asked is that he wouldn’t be able to wrestle elsewhere contractually.” Full report is available for subscribers.
