Layla Says Charlotte Flair Doesn’t Get The Credit She Deserves, Calls Women’s Wrestling ‘Empowering’

Layla comments on women’s wrestling today.

In 2015, Layla, a former WWE Divas Champion, retired from the business. Her last opponent was Paige, whom she faced at a live event.

Speaking on TMZ’s Inside The Ring, Layla was asked if she keeps up with the wrestling product today.

“I keep up with it. I mostly get involved when it comes just before the WrestleMania, the Rumble and stuff like that.”

She then commented on the female wrestlers of today, mainly Charlotte Flair, and also talked about the five-way ladder match at SummerSlam this year.

“Charlotte Flair, I don’t think she gets as much credit or flowers as she deserves. She’s amazing, even at her age right now. Then you look at the matches that they put on, the main events, the ladder match. I even saw the ladder match just recently and Chelsea Green won. I was just blown away. These women, they can go. It’s actually very empowering to watch and proud, not jealous, just really proud of them. They can compete with the men. I’m so, so happy that they are able to have that opportunity. They trained hard and everything. But they get that opportunity. It’s phenomenal to watch. Congratulations to all of them. I’m in awe of how women’s wrestling is just on all the way up. Rhea Ripley, I don’t even call her a diva or women’s wrestler. She’s just a WWE superstar. You can now not have to have a gender. It’s just a WWE superstar. We never had that in our era.”

In another interview, she credited CM Punk for coming up with the ‘LayCool’ tag team for her and Michelle McCool. Fans can read her full comments here.
