Paul Wight speaks on the recent controversy surrounding Avery Styles ‘paying his dues’ by helping set up before events.

Over the course of the past couple of weeks, much has been made about Avery Styles allegedly not helping with setting up for a GCW show, with Arik Cannon publicly calling Avery out for this. This would result in several names from WWE and other companies offering their opinions on the matter, and now an AEW name has come to Avery’s defense.

While speaking to TMZ Sports’ Inside The Ring, Paul Wight spoke about ‘paying dues,’ noting that in his opinion, it is a way to bully young talent.

“Fuck that bullshit okay? Paying your dues, to me, is an old timer’s way of intimidating and bullying and fucking with the younger talent for no Goddamn reason. If a talent comes in respectful with a good attitude, don’t come in like you own the place, don’t have an attitude, why should you take heat because your athleticism, your look or what opportunities you’ve been given you’ve been successful on? Why should someone hold that against you because you didn’t drive for 35 dollars a night? You didn’t set up some broken torn ass down ring? You didn’t struggle for all this stuff? Ok? Why punish somebody for that?”

Wight recently provided an update on his weight loss journey. You can read more about that here.
