Matt Cardona: Gunther Saying ‘Back From Catering’ Isn’t An Insult. Like I Book The Show
Matt Cardona confronted Gunther on Friday’s WWE SmackDown after “The Ring General” disrespected Cardona’s wife Chelsea Green.
Though Cardona stood up for his wife, he was ultimately downed by Gunther in an impromptu match. During the confrontation, Gunther said he was surprised to see Cardona, who is usually in catering.
“As for Gunther, I had no problem with that guy. I have no relationship with him, just say ‘hi’ and ‘bye’ at work. If you disrespect my wife, then I have a problem,” Cardona said on Busted Open.
Asked if fans would continue to see a more serious side of Cardona, he replied, “Gunther tried to throw a dig at me, ‘Back from catering.’ Like I book the show. That’s not really an insult. It’s an insult when you disrespect my wife. I’m glad he kicked my ass because it woke me up. I don’t want to be in WWE to collect a paycheck, get the salt and pepper chicken, get the t-shirt. I want to be a major player in WWE. Gunther kicking my ass really woke me up. Gunther, thank you for running your mouth, disrespecting Chelsea, and kicking my ass. It really woke me up. If you want to do it again, you know where to find me.”
Cardona has not won a singles match on television since January.
Elsewhere during the interview, Cardona commented on Chelsea’s promo ahead of his confrontation with Gunther. You can find his comments here.
