Xia Brookside shares how her dad, Robbie Brookside, told her no many times when it came to beginning wrestling training.

Xia is the daughter of Robbie Brookside, a former UK based professional wrestler who has become a coach in WWE NXT. For Xia, she has now commented on the influence he had on her in ring career.

While speaking to The Daily Star in a new interview, Xia Brookside spoke about being a second generation pro wrestler.

“Wrestling family, we made the decision straight away to be different. So he (Robbie Brookside) never trained me. He never supported my wrestling career. He actually told me no many times before I started training, and then I went and started training behind his back. So we always kept it very separate. There is definitely, there’s definitely a lot of pressure, and I think the biggest thing was there were, a lot more doors opened for me initially, right? But it was a lot harder to get through them. So I started wrestling at 16 and all these shows are popping up. I remember one big show in the UK and I wrestled there at- I was 17 years old. I was not even a year into my career. I had no right wrestling on that show. It was a big show that I wasn’t ready for, and because of the name, I got booked on it, but I wasn’t ready. So it was like, The name gave you this opportunity, but it’s way harder to live up to what they’re expecting of you, even six months into your career. So it’s been great. I love carrying on my dad’s legacy. He did so much for British wrestling, and now I get to take that and take it into America, and he’s still doing his thing. He’s coaching at WWE still. So it’s fun, but we do keep it separate.”

Elsewhere in the same interview, Xia spoke about having Imposter Syndrome during the first week of her TNA Knockouts World Title reign. You can read more about that here.
