Will Ospreay Recalls CM Punk-Jack Perry Incident, Thought They Were Cutting A Promo

Will Ospreay reveals where he was during the CM Punk and Jack Perry incident.

AEW heads back to Wembley Stadium for AEW All In on Sunday. The event will be headlined by Will Ospreay challenging Kenny Omega for the AEW World Title.

AEW’s first time at Wembley in 2023 was historic, but it was partially overshadowed by a backstage incident between CM Punk and Jack Perry that led to Punk being fired a week later.

Ospreay was not signed to AEW at the time, but he had competed on multiple AEW events and was set to face Chris Jericho at All In.

Speaking to Ariel Helwani on the Ariel Helwani Show, Ospreay was asked how the vibes backstage had changed since 2023.

“I can’t comment that much because I wasn’t there (in 2022). I was there at the Punk and Jack Perry thing. I was going over the match in my head, and I sat there thinking, ‘I need to get this right and this right.’ I heard a commotion, and I thought they were cutting a promo. I got out of dodge, and I saw Punk go past me and was like, ‘Oh no. I know exactly what that means.’ It was funny because it was one of those things where, you obviously read shit on the internet, but to see it happen in front of you, it was like, ‘Oh, that’s lame. Every time I’ve come here it’s been super enjoyable.'” he said.

The confrontation between Punk and Perry was eventually shown on AEW television to advance the storyline between the Young Bucks and FTR.

Punk would sign with WWE months after being fired by AEW. Ospreay would join AEW on a full-time basis in early 2024.
