Maya World Reflects On Beating Athena In Women’s Owen Hart Cup Semifinals

Maya World says beating Athena helped set up everything that happened afterward.
This year has been great for Maya World so far. Not only did she beat her mentor Athena to reach the finals of the Women’s Owen Hart Cup, but Maya also won her first singles title in AEW by defeating Hikaru Shida for the TBS Title.
Speaking with Adrian Hernandez on Unlikely recently, Maya World talked about beating Athena in the Women’s Owen Hart Cup semifinals this year.
“It was one of those things where I finally beat her. I’ve lost to Athena more times than I can count. But I feel like those times also gave me confidence where I’m like, ‘One day I’m going to beat her. When I finally do beat her, I’ll have so much reassurance in myself.’ So, I feel like that moment definitely set up all the things that happened after because it finally gave me this confidence of, like I finally beat the person who helped me, mentored me to where I am right now. So, it just helped for moments that were going to happen after that.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Maya talked about her Mount Rushmore in wrestling. Fans can read her full comments by clicking here.
