Kelani Jordan Talks NXT Women’s Title Win, ‘Now The Real Work Begins’
Kelani Jordan is ready to do the work.
NXT Heatwave featured the biggest moment of Jordan’s career, as she was able to capture the NXT Women’s Championship for the first time. This brought an end to Kendal Grey’s reign with the title, which only lasted 63 days.
Speaking with Denise Salcedo for a new interview, Kelani said that she’s ready to stay at the top after letting out a sigh of relief about getting there in the first time.
“It felt like a breath of fresh air. It felt like I could finally just go like breath out and [sigh] because I finally did it. I’ve been working so hard. Like I said, it’s been three and a half, a little bit over three and a half chase to go for this title and even to get this title. It felt super rejuvenating, but also in that moment, I knew that it’s one thing to get a title but it’s enough thing to keep a title. That’s when I knew, okay, now the real work begins because I’ve been prepping for this moment for so long. Like I said, it’s one thing to get to the top but it’s another thing to stay there.”
Jordan went on to say that she does her best work when she is under pressure.
“I think when you have a title, it already comes with additional pressure in a way because everyone’s eyes are on you. But also, all the girls are chasing you, like they want a chance at the title so their eyes are locked in on you. It comes with that pressure but I’ve always thrived under pressure, especially coming from a gymnastics background. That’s when I feel like I do the best, is being under pressure. Like you said, there’s been so many great champions before me and seeing how they’ve gone off and are killing it or just doing their thing up on the main roster, it is a good moment of being like, okay this title, it mean something. But right now, my focus is just having an amazing NXT title reign, defending this title and not letting anyone take it from me. That starts with Jaida next week.”
