John Cena has revealed his favorite match of his entire professional wrestling career, pointing to his very first bout.

For over 20 years, Cena was one of the top names in all of professional wrestling, competing against some of the most legendary names in WWE’s recent history. Prior to his retirement last year, his favorite match would be a topic that Cena would get around by noting it was ‘his next one’, but now that he has retired, he has given a different answer.

While speaking at the Tampa Comic Convention in a recent appearance, John Cena was asked about his favorite match of his career, with Cena naming his first ever match due to it being the reason he was able to have more.

“That’s a good question. You know, I used to have a trick to get around this question that I no longer can use. So while I wasn’t retired, if I would hear a question like yours, like ask your question, (What was your favorite match?) I would easily be like, ‘no problem, that’s my next one.’ That was my cheat code. But now I have to actually answer your question, and I’ve been thinking about this, because it’s a serious question, right? I think I’ve had a bunch of fun with a bunch of matches and a bunch of opponents. But I don’t think any of those matches happen if I don’t have the first one. So as much as I’ve had wonderful moments. I think my first match is my favorite match because you can’t have any of the rest of them without the first one, right?”

Elsewhere in the same appearance, Cena spoke about how he prepared for his heel turn. You can read more about that here.
