Chelsea Green Says Nick Aldis Helped Write 8/14 WWE SmackDown Promo, Felt Title Reign Was Going In Lame Direction Before Injury

Chelsea Green captured the Interim WWE Women’s Championship at WWE SummerSlam, winning a ladder match for the vacant title with Rhea Ripley sidelined.

She suffered an orbital injury on the August 7th episode of WWE SmackDown, and it looked like she would have to relinquish the title a week later, but an emotional promo with SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis bought her 30 days to get cleared and defend the title.

Reflecting on the promo with Sam Roberts on NotSam Wrestling, Green said, “It was definitely bigger than whatever was to come. I think we all felt where it was going that week after SummerSlam where I had a very lame promo and it kind of led into a couple of lame moments. Then, that broken orbital bone was the best thing that could’ve ever happened to me because of that promo.”

Praising Aldis for his help with the promo, Green commented, “Nick and I spent a lot of time on that promo. I’m very thankful for Nick Aldis because he helped me write that one and he helped me write the follow up a couple of weeks later. It hit because we were able to go through the emotions and change of pace and the ride we wanted to take them on. ‘What’s the angle, but how do we get there making them think we’re going to take it off me?’ That’s the crucial moment in that promo.”

Green would defend her title on the September 11 episode of SmackDown against Nia Jax.
