Jim Johnston Says Chyna Gave Him The Idea For Triple H’s ‘My Time’ Entrance Theme
Jim Johnston talks about the creation of Triple H’s ‘My Time’ theme song.
Triple H has had several iconic theme songs in professional wrestling. Fans remember his entrances to ‘The Game’ or ‘King of Kings.’ But HHH also had another theme song back in 1999, which was called ‘My Time,’ composed by Jim Johnston.
In a recent conversation with Ropes n Riffs, Jim Johnston discussed this theme song in detail. Johnston said that he created the opening sound purely by accident.
“That weird sound in the intro was a Korg synth of some variety… purely accidental, which is something I was very open to. It’s why I always work alone—because I would be too embarrassed to try certain things if somebody else was in the room! Sometimes you try weird stuff and it really works. I was working the mod wheel in a really extreme way to the rhythm of the song, and it created that weird sound.
Johnston then explained how a conversation between Triple H and Chyna gave him the idea for this entrance music.
“I love that song, and it’s a very meaningful song too because Chyna gave me an idea that clicked. They were having a talk backstage and they were both at transition points in their careers and in a relationship. She was being so kind and reassuring him that it was going to work out, and suddenly she said, ‘You know, it’s your time.’ I was like, ‘It’s my time… that’s Triple H’s new theme.’ If you want to be a composer or an artist, it’s very important to be open and curious for those little clues and treats thrown out to you, because they’re happening all around you all the time.”
