At WrestleMania 35, Kofi would feature in the WWE title bout at the show that was built up in the shows prior following an injury to Mustafa Ali. Kofi would go on to win the championship against Daniel Bryan in a moment dubbed ‘KofiMania.’
While speaking to The Mick and Kenny show in a new interview, Kofi spoke about the build up to the moment, noting his belief that without Ali suffering an injury, there would have been no ‘KofiMania.’
“I was fortunate that they did go with it, you know? So it’s like a lot of times I feel like… that whole situation, everything, like when I went to work every week, everything was perfect, you know? So it came at the expense of (Mustafa) Ali being hurt. If he wasn’t hurt, then he would have been in that gauntlet match in the Elimination Chamber in the two pay-per-views before WrestleMania. So if he doesn’t get hurt, I’m not put in that role. I’m not seen as the, you know, like there being a chance for me to do it. So it had to happen that way. I don’t know what would have happened if he were to stay, if he would have had MustafaMania, I don’t know. I would have loved to see that, too, because he’s a really, really good dude. But, you know, everything happens for a reason.”
Elsewhere in the same interview, Kofi spoke about The New Level’s AEW debut being the worst kept secret on the internet. You can read more about that here.
