Injuries in professional wrestling are going to happen, as people throwing themselves down for a living is not exactly the number one industry for worker safety. However, some injuries come from freak incidents, including during things as ‘boring’ as ring setup.
While speaking to Fightful Overbooked’s In The Weeds in a recent interview, Stu Grayson spoke about using duct tape instead of stiches for injuries.
“The amount of time I should have gone stitches and I just used duct tape. It’s fucking crazy. I used to travel with duct tape and a little bit of crazy glue and I would just continuously just crazy glue duct tape my skin. Move on to the next match.”
Stu also went on to share an instance where he stabbed himself in the hand while trying to set up a ring.
“The craziest place not as in it’s crazy as in it’s really, really a huge problem. It was my hand. I was fixing a ring, and while I’m going to try to make it so you can see it, but I was cutting. So I always fix rings when I’m on shows because I’m the guy who gets things done with his hands. So I’m fixing a turnbuckle and I have a long knife, and as I’m trying to cut the rope, I stab my hand. So the knife came in here and came out here. So it was all the way in my hand. So I had to pull it out. Then I said, can you go get my crazy glue?’ I used the crazy glue, then I duct taped my hand, and then I went on to wrestle. That’s just how it is.”
Elsewhere in the same interview, Stu spoke about his recent matchup with Josh Alexander. You can read more about that here.
