Matt Hardy Says He Would Have Had ‘Almost Complete Creative Control’ Over The Broken Character In TNA

Matt Hardy recalls the degree of which he would have had creative control over the ‘Broken’ character if he had stayed with TNA.

In May of 2016, Matt would debut the ‘Broken’ Matt Hardy character, which was born out of a career resurgence for the largely tag team wrestler. The character would flourish, with Hardy bringing the character with him to both WWE and AEW in the future.

While speaking to The Stunner in an interview where he would fact check his Wikipedia page, Matt Hardy spoke about the level of creative control he had over the ‘Broken’ Matt Hardy character in TNA.

“That’s not fully correct. I did. I worked with Jeremy Borash, who was like our guy. And while I was at home, I definitely had very much input. But, you know, they would say, like, we’re hoping to go in this direction, and if we would have stayed in TNA instead of returning to WWE, and that’s just because Jeff Jarrett, he came in, and he was kind of going through a darker point in his life, and we had a little bit of a falling out, and they were talking about changing the money that we’d already agreed to. We went back there. If I would have stayed, though, I would have probably had almost complete creative control. I’d been very close to it.”

Elsewhere in the same interview, Matt recalled the Hardys being taken off WWE TV due to Jeff being uncomfortable with pitches for a tag team split between the two. You can read more about that here.
