AEW and NJPW’s working relationship over the last few years has had varying results, with names crossing over into both promotions and names from both companies holding each other’s championships.

While speaking to Fightful Overbooked’s In The Weeds in a new interview, Yota Tsuji would speak about Kenny Omega stepping up to him as of late.

“Firstly, Kenny is someone that I have been watching his match from the link side as a Young Lion, so I know he’s from AEW but he used to be in the main losses of new Japan. So, I kind of have a feeling that, okay, I have came to, I have reached this stage to, fight actually against someone like Kenny. So that’s something that I have a feeling in that, but, Kenny came to Ryogoku and I think he was, he knew that in his mind that I am not easy person to put a title match, allowing him to challenge for my IWGP (Championship) just because he came all the way from AEW.  I think traditionally, AEW guys kind of came into New Japan’s ring and issued a challenge and he immediately had the title shot. But this time, he is willing to do the match in the three-way with no title involved at Hiroshima. That’s something I can kind of feel some sort of respect from Kenny to New Japan. So that’s something I kind of admire as well, that that I hope to build some positive relationship with Kenny and our AEW in the future. In the meantime, Boltin (Oleg) is someone that I’ve lost at G1 recently. So that’s someone that I definitely need to have a bench, and he is no doubt that one of the best bosses of New Japan. So the next Wrestle Kingdom, which is the very next show met next. So the Tanahashi’s retirement was this year’s Wrestle Kingdom. So next Wreslte Kingdom is going to be the proof to have the new era of New Japan. So I hope to have the single match, IWGP heavyweight title match against Oleg Boltin to prove the, the New Japan and
all the pressing fans that this is our New Japan new style. So I hope to beat Kenny at Hiroshima and to secure the single match against Bolton at the Wrestle Kingdom for the next year at Tokyo Dome. So that’s what I’m hoping to do.”

Elsewhere in the same interview, Yota spoke about his upcoming MLW appearance. You can read more about that here.
