Albert Tumenov was once a happy employee of the UFC, but now the Russian competes in his native country of Russia for the Absolute Championships Berkut promotion.
One major factor that lead to the fighter signing with the ACB is the apparently bad offer the UFC gave him to re-sign with them.
“In the end, we decided that we needed to get away from there,” Tumenov told Cage-Side. “ACB League was interested in me, and made a good offer. I had not planned to leave the organization. Let's see what will happen in the future.”
Tumenov is going to be making his ACB debut at ACB 61 on May 20, where he faces Marcelo Alfaya in a welterweight division clash.
The Russian fighter also believes that the UFC has a problem promoting him and other fighters from his country.
“It is complicated for Russian fighters to perform [in the UFC],” Tumenov explained. “It's still an American organization. They try to promote their own. Fighters from Russia did not bring a lot of money for promotional campaigns. They are not interested in promoting Russians.”
During his time with the UFC, the Russian prospect won five of eight fights and his last bout with the promotion came at UFC 204.
