Ben Askren Happy “The Money Fight” Hoopla Is Over

One Championships Welterweight Champion Ben Askren is coming off of a successful title defense over Zebaztian Kadestam at One Championships 60.

The circus surrounding “The Money Fight” between UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather is winding down, which is something that Askren is happy about.

"The fight is just for show. It didn't do any good for both sports. It gave Conor a lot of attention but I do not think it helps MMA as a whole,” Askren said to the IB Times UK.

Askren did check out “The Money Fight,” which was won by tenth round TKO by Mayweather.

In his opinion, the welterweight kingpin believes that Mayweather let McGregor win the opening rounds of the fight.

"Mayweather let McGregor win those [early] rounds. He is such a great boxer and was definitely going to win but he didn't want McGregor to look bad. So he let McGregor win a few rounds, take it slow and I didn't even feel Mayweather was doing much,” says Askren.

Now that Askren is coming off of the successful title defense at One Championships 60, and will fight Shinya Aoki later this year.
