Canelo Alvarez: My Style Is Superior To GGG's Style

Less than two months away from one of the biggest boxing fights in recent memory, both Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin have started training and Alvarez is already confident that he has the superior boxing style.

Alvarez spoke to ESPN and said his and Golovkin's styles will clash and produce a potentially great fight. Alvarez is training in San Diego, California while Golovkin, alongside trainer Abel Sanchez, is training in Big Bear Lake, California.

"I'm a fighter who is a counterpuncher, and [Golovkin's] style is a come-forward style, so I think both styles will lead to a great fight," Alvarez said. "My style, the style that I have, is superior to his style. With sparring, we usually go based on someone who is similar to the fighter in order to have the same style: the height and the weight. That's usually what we focus on, to get somebody like that."

Golovkin vs. Alvarez for the unified middleweight word titles (WBA, WBC, IBF) takes place on September 16 in Las Vegas, headlining an HBO pay-per-view card. Golovkin is making his 19th consecutive middleweight world title defense, which is one shy of tying Bernard Hopkins' middleweight division record for defenses.
