Exclusive: Jason Moloney Talks Signing With Top Rank, Future World Title Opportunity

After signing a promotional deal with Top Rank Boxing, Jason Moloney is ready about what the future holds for him.

In an exclusive interview with Fightful, Moloney opened up about signing with Top Rank and said he is excited about the opportunities the new partnership can bring him. Moloney had a taste of fighting in the United States last year when he had a narrow split decision loss to IBF bantamweight champion Emmanuel Rodriguez in the World Boxing Super Series.

Now that he is expected to head to the U.S. later this year, Moloney said he wants to impress the American crowds and create a new fanbase out west.

"It’s an absolute dream come true to have teamed up with Top Rank. I’m extremely happy and excited to start this chapter of my career and I’m confident that together we can go straight to the top. America is the Mecca of boxing and fighting the big fights on the biggest stage is exactly what I want. The U.S have such passionate boxing fans and I’m eager to get over there and put on a great performance to show the American audience what I’m capable of," Moloney said.

Despite the loss to Rodriguez in his first world title fight, Moloney is still ranked in the top six on all four major governing bodies' rankings at bantamweight. Moloney feels he is still close to fighting for a 118-pound world title.

"I’m ranked very high in all four major sanctioning bodies so I’m very close to getting another world title opportunity. Right now I’m just focused on working hard in the gym and improving everyday. I feel as though I’m constantly getting better and better so when my opportunity comes I’ll be ready to grab it with both hands," Moloney said.

But before he can think about his eventual U.S. debut, Moloney will have to face Cesar Ramirez on June 15 in New South Wales, Australia. Moloney's fight will be on the same card as his brother, super flyweight contender Andrew Moloney, who will be taking on Ruben Montoya for the WBA Oceania title.
