Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua Could Well be On (Again)
The long-awaited heavyweight boxing clash between British bruisers Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury has been rumored for years. But management for both fighters have recently confirmed for the first time that negotiations are right now ongoing. So, what’s the deal? When and where might this big card fight actually happen?
Well, the official line is there is no signed agreement yet – despite widespread reports from alleged insiders in both camps. Joshua’s manager and promoter Eddie Hearn told media recently that there have been deep conversations and that they are now being revisited. Rumors are the plans could be to fight on a Netflix PPV in late 2026 or early 2027.
How the Betting Market Might Shape Up on Fury vs Joshua
From a betting perspective, Fury vs Joshua would be one of the biggest fights of recent years. Especially in the UK, as both fighters are British and the country has a long-established betting market. Joshua’s profile was also boosted in the US recently after his high profile bout with influencer boxer Jake Paul.
That means there will be lots of international operators offering promos and boosts on this bout specifically. Those looking for Boxing betting online want respected international sportsbooks with loads of boxing options, as well as bonuses, rewards and reliable payment methods.
At present, sportsbooks aren’t offering odds on this unconfirmed fight. But how would they shape up?
Well, it’s hard to say. The betting line would be all over the place for this one. Fury has the size advantage and the movement, but Joshua offers raw knockout power – and Fury has been knocked down in high profile fights before. This creates a stylistic contrast which betting markets go crazy for.
By 2027 both fighters will be in their mid 30s and returning after fairly long breaks from professional heavyweight bouts. Depending on how Fury fares against the Russian Arslanbek Makhmudov in April, and if Joshua fights again before facing Fury, any hypothetical betting lines could shift considerably. Never mind that if they both lose, it is even possible they could both retire.
The Latest News – What is Known For Certain
Hearn has said that negotiations began well before Joshua fought Paul in a much-memed exhibition bout in 2025. However, after breaking influencer boxer Paul’s jaw in a dominating performance and gaining a big payday, Joshua was days later involved in a serious car accident in Nigeria. An accident that killed two of his friends and left him severely injured.
Understandably that put talks of fighting Fury or anyone else on hold for a while, as Joshua recovered from the mental and physical ordeal. However, he is reportedly now back in training and looking to return to the ring in 2026. Hearn also said that he won’t be fighting Fury next, with at least one fight in between.
Meanwhile Fury is fighting for the first time since October 2024 when he lost against Oleksandr Usyk for the second time. He subsequently announced his retirement in January 2025, but has now returned and will be fighting Makhmudov in April. However, Fury has teased he has another high profile fight lined up for after that bout.
The circumstances all led controversial British combat sports journalist Gareth A Davies to weigh on the rumors. On a London radio show he suggested that he has insider knowledge that the deal was done and Joshua vs Fury would be streaming on Netflix in late 2026 or early 2027.
No venue or promotion has been confirmed yet by either camp. The Netflix rumors are interesting as both fighters are currently under contract with DAZN. But in today’s boxing world, who knows.
A likely venue could be Saudi Arabia for global audiences and the biggest prize purses, although London’s Wembley Arena would be a natural choice for the two top-tier British fighters.
Legacy, Timing and a Big British Fight
At their respective peaks between 2018 and 2022, Fury vs Joshua would have been the biggest global boxing event for years. Right now, it still represents a massive draw for the sports globally – and for British boxing it is arguably its biggest fight in decades. Possibly since the days of Lennox Lewis in the early 90s.
For Fury, a win would reassert his status as one of the greatest British heavyweights of all time. However a loss would confirm his decline after multiple retirements and failing to beat Usyk twice.
For Joshua meanwhile, he has something to prove. His last two fights were a mismatch against an influencer boxer and a fight against former MMA champion Francis Ngannou, who was in only his second pro boxing bout. Therefore, Joshua will be looking to test himself against elite competition
With both men entering the twilight of their boxing careers, Tyson having literally retired twice now, the fight could be somewhat of a last roll of the dice from both to put themselves among the greatest British boxers ever.
