Carlos Diego Ferreira Suspended Seventeen Months By USADA

UFC Lightweight Carlos Diego Ferreira has been suspended by USADA for two banned substances.

According to USADA Ferreira tested positive for one substance out-of-competition while declaring a product which contained another banned substance. The two chemicals in question are Ostarine and 7-keto-DHEA. On the USADA website the organization explained how Ferreira was found to be in violation and the status of the substances.

Both Ostarine and 7-keto-DHEA are prohibited substances in the class of Anabolic Agents and prohibited at all times under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, which has adopted the WADA Prohibited List.

Though Ferreira's supplement did list the banned 7-keto-DHEA, it also contained Ostarine. USADA had his supplement tested.

"At USADA’s request, the WADA-accredited laboratory in Salt Lake City, Utah, independently obtained and analyzed the contents of an unopened container of the supplement in question. That testing conclusively confirmed that although the supplement only listed one prohibited substance as an ingredient (7-keto-DHEA), it actually contained 7-keto-DHEA and a second undeclared prohibited substance (Ostarine) as well. Ferreira advised USADA that although he researched the product prior to using it, he did not realize 7-keto-DHEA was a prohibited substance, or that the supplement contained Ostarine," said a report on USADA's website.

Ferreira received a suspension one month shorter than Lyoto Machida who also declared a supplement with 7-keto-DHEA. Ferreira's suspension was nearly twenty-four months because he failed for two substances but USADA reduced his suspension after testing his supplement for Ostarine.

The suspension retroactively starts April 29th, 2016, the day of the failed test. Quotes above are from USADA.org
