Chris Jericho On Roman Reigns' Mixed Reaction: "Not Everybody's Going To Cheer For The Same Team"

Chris Jericho is making the rounds promoting his upcoming book "No Is A Four Letter Word," and he spoke with Sports Illustrated about the lightning rod that is Roman Reigns.

Jericho is of the belief--as are many others--that the crowd reaction to Reigns' (which could charitably be described as "mixed") is actually a good thing. The thunderous reaction that Roman receives everywhere, whether it's boos or cheers or "Roman Sucks" chants, means that "if you love him or you hate him, you feel very strongly about him." And "being felt very strongly about" is viewed as a surefire way of making money.

"For whatever reason, it's the cool thing to boo Roman Reigns, just as it was the cool thing to boo John Cena, just as it was the cool thing to boo The Rock.

"Roman Reigns might be the best wrestler in the company," says Jericho, in a statement that's sure to make a large chunk of the WWE Universe pull out their hair. "And I'm telling you that because if people are interested in what you're doing whether they're booing or whether they're cheering, they're still gonna pay money to see you."

Many fans want Reigns to turn heel, as they're tired of what they perceive to be an unjust protection and elevation of him by Vince McMahon and the rest of the top brass. Jericho says there's no reason to make such a bold decision, since Roman is doing just fine in his tweener role.

"I wouldn't change it right now," Jericho says. "Obviously the boss has decided Roman is going to be a tweener. It's like football or baseball or hockey, not everybody's going to cheer for the same team, as long as you're making noise."

The only reason to make a change is if the act has gotten stale, says Jericho, "And Roman's not stale."
